The female nude as art is as old as history, from the Venus of Willendorf to Greek urns to Raphael and Botticelli. With the advent of photography, the medium may have expanded, but the subject matter hasn't. Some of the earliest subjects of photography were nude women. And despite the advent of high quality color film, black and white photography is still very widely used, and women are perhaps the most numerous subjects of the art form.
As a photographer, I love both black and white photography as well as the female nude (my wife and some then-girlfriends have been among my favorite models). So I have complied this collection of work, a few famous, most not-so-famous. Many of these works have been displayed in public before, in either galleries or in local competitions such as at the International Photography Exposition at Del Mar, California. This site is a paean to both the wonderful creation of the female body as well as to black and white photography as an art form.
None of the photographs in this collection are pornographic or overtly sexual. None would be completely innapropriate for viewing by youngsters, and as mentioned above, many have been displayed in public forums and galleries. This site contains no pornography. This is an artistic site of fine black and white photography with the female nude as the subject. Sensual, yes. Erotic? To a degree. Sexy, sure. But sexual, no. There is no overt graphic display of genitalia. That is better left to porn sites. But the pictures here do display the nude female body. Some of these pictures here are quite famous (such as taken by Helmut Newton). Some are not so well known. Most have been displayed in galleries or in public photo contests. The intent here is both a celebration of the female body as well as the art form of black and white photography. Many of the pictures were taken by me, and while I don't put myself in the same category as the photographer greats, I still hope you will enjoy these black and white female nudes.
